Cross-linked composites were synthesized via internal compounding of Polydimethylsiloxane and Polytetraflouroethylene micro-powder (PTFEMP) in various proportions and subsequently cross-linking to different extent by electron beam irradiation. The PTFE micro-powder was generated by degrading PTFE ribbons using gamma radiation in presence of CCl4. Elastic modulus of the composites increasedwith radiation doseupto300kGy. Thecomposi-tes showed greater increase in elastic modulus than pure PDMS. Polymer-filler interaction, XRD and FTIR investigations reflected complex changes in composites during compounding and radiation cross-linking. PTFEMP loading did not affect contact angle much but significantly reduced coefficient of friction for composites.

Development of Electron Beam Cross-Linked PDMS/PTFEM Composites with Low Coefficient of Friction and High Elastic Modulus
