In pure a Ti the tracer impurity diffusion coefficients of Co60 and Mn54 were measured at 799° and 856°. The results are critically discussed. They comply only in part with common generalization about solute and solvent diffusion in alloys. The solute enhancement of Ti self-diffusion rates is less than the theoretical minimum value expected for a vacancy mechanism. The results are, however, in keeping with a mechanism of diffusion by interstitial and Miller (1969 b) type interstitial-vacancy pair migration. This same mechanism is believed to operate also in the TiMn alloys.
