There is a growing body of evidence that oxidized low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) play an important role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis [1,2]. Indeed, oxidized LDLs have been detected in the arterial wall, and they can not only stimulate foam cell formation, but also elicit numerous inflammatory reactions, thereby being involved in the development and progression of atherosclerosis [3,4]. Recently, circulating level of malodialdehyde-modified LDL (MDA-LDL), one of the representative oxidized LDLs, was found to be a biochemical risk marker for atherosclerosis and its concentration was elevated in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), especially in those with acute coronary syndromes [5–7].

Ezetimibe, an inhibitor of intestinal cholesterol absorption, decreases serum level of malondialdehyde-modified low-density lipoprotein in patients with hypercholesterolemia
