The Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) meteorological flight instruments for use on board the NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP) spacecraft and the National Polar-Orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS), is a multi-channel microwave radiometer. The ATMS is a total power radiometer system that passively monitors the radiation from the earth's surface and atmosphere in the microwave portion of the spectrum. It is a cross-track, line-scanned instrument designed to measure scene radiance's in twenty two discrete frequency channels.
