Abstract Background Anti-tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α drugs are used by increasing numbers of reproductive-age women. Although the neonatal outcomes have been described, there are concerns regarding the risk of infection in offspring following exposure to anti-TNF-α. Methods A literature search was conducted using Pubmed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Database, from inception through August 2020. We evaluated the risk of infection in autoimmune disease (AID) offspring unexposed to anti-TNF-α compar...

Abstract Background The rise in paediatric non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is particularly alarming. We recently reported that Hydroxytyrosol (HXT) and Vitamin E (VitE) may improve oxidative stress, insulin resistance, and steatosis in children with biopsy-proven NAFLD. Aim Here, we investigated if HXT+VitE may reduce systemic inflammation in the above-mentioned patients. Methods This study analysed the plasma levels of IL (interleukin)-6, IL-1β, IL-10, tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α, ...

Abstract Background The economic burden of Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) has not been investigated at population-level. Aim of this study was to estimate the cost of illness of PBC in Lombardy, Italy. Methods Individuals with PBC were identified through ICD-9-CM code 571.6 and/or medical exemption code 008.571.6, from the Banca Dati Assistito of Lombardy. Only health services (outpatient, inpatient activities and drugs) related to PBC were considered to estimate direct medical costs in 2017....

BACKGROUND & AIMS Probe choice (M or XL) in transient elastography can be made by the user's own measure of skin-to-liver-capsule distance (SCD) or with an automated tool (AUTO). We studied how AUTO depends on initial probe choice. METHODS Three fictive clinics were considered: The "M-first clinic" uses AUTO from the M probe, the "XL-first clinic" uses AUTO from the XL probe and a "reference clinic" measures SCD independently. Agreement and discrepancies to the reference clinic were measured. RE...
