Abstract The oxide film formed naturally on the surface of aluminum alloy is easy to be damaged in marine and lake environment, resulting in corrosion and damage of aluminum alloy matrix materials. Compared with alumina, aluminum fluoride has excellent chemical stability. It is insoluble in acid, alkali and most organic solvents. In this study, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) was used as the surface treatment material. A protective layer of aluminum fluoride was deposited on the surface of alumin...

Abstract Peculiarities of the recoverable strain variation on cooling and heating under a stress was studied in the NiTi sample produced by wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM). The strain variation occurred in some stages due to the layers underwent the martensitic transformations at different temperatures. The recoverable strain on cooling and heating under a stress of the NiTi WAAM sample was three times less than in the alloys produced by conventional technology. This may be caused by text...

Abstract In this work, carbon coated-CuO-Cu2O composite on copper foam (C-CuO-Cu2O/CF) is synthesized by candle flame treatment and is evaluated as a photocathode of photoelectrochemical water splitting (PEC). The photocurrent density of C-CuO-Cu2O/CF electrode can reach -1.2 mA cm-2 (at 0 V vs. RHE), which is about 12 times higher than that of Cu2O/CF. The high PEC performance is due to the carbon modification and the unique composition which increase the carrier concentration and reduce the ca...

Abstract This article reports the defect mediated electrical properties of three hydrothermally grown pure hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanocrystals synthesized between 120 °C and 180 °C, at a constant pH = 10 with changing morphology from nanorods to nanoflakes at higher temperatures. The analyses of X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) patterns, Field-Emission Scanning-Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) images, Selected-Area...
Abstract High refractive index, dielectric TiCN nanocubes presenting sharp nano-edges and nano-corners interfaced with plasmonic Ag nanofilms were evaluated with and without graphene oxide nanolayer in surface plasmon-coupled emission (SPCE) substrates. The sharply directional and polarized SPCE displayed >800-fold enhancements on account of integrated hotspots presenting augmented electromagnetic fields. The obtained fluorescence enhancements were in excellent correlation with the luminosity va...
Abstract The present study introduces a novel method for synthesis titanium hydride (TiH2) powder at low-temperature from ilmenite for powder metallurgy. The ilmenite converted to titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) gas through the chlorination process. Next, TiCl4 reacted with magnesium hydride at different times and temperatures to produce TiH2 under a hydrogen atmosphere. The phase and morphology analysis of the obtained powders were studied using X-Ray Diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscopy...

Abstract Novel Co53.5-xNixCr20Fe10Re16.5 (x=18.5, 23.5, 28.5 and 33.5 at.%) multicomponent alloys (MCAs) with high temperature application potential are presented. The phase transformation, refined microstructure and tensile properties were investigated for these MCAs under solutionized and annealed states. The solutionized MCAs with Ni content less than 28.5% consist of FCC, HCP laminate layers and nodular σ phase with Cr2Re3 type of tetragonal structure. As for annealed MCAs, HCP laminates dis...
Abstract A simple method combined combustion synthesis (CS) and melt dilution was utilized to fast fabricate Al3Ti/Al composites. This paper mainly focuses on analyzing the effect of heat source temperature (Ths) on combustion behaviors and reaction products in the 5Al-Ti system. The ultrafast heating rate induced by Ths could activate liquid-solid combustion in powder compacts. Due to the presence of Al3Ti layer acted as a diffusion barrier, it is suggested that reaction kinetics is mainly Ti-d...

Abstract To restrain the surface charge accumulation of the epoxy resin (EP) applied in the high-voltage power field, one of the efficient methods is to dissipate the charges on the EP surface by incorporating inorganic filler. In this work, we employed amine-functionalized boron nitride nanosheets (mBNNS) based on liquid-phase exfoliation and urea modification to prepare EP composites. Owing to the existence of –NH2 groups on the exfoliated mBNNS platelets, the uniform filler dispersion and goo...

Abstract In this work, electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) was applied for microstructural characterization of the advanced Ti-5.7Al-3.8Mo-1.2Zr-1.3Sn alloy subjected to equalchannel angular pressing (ECAP). It was found that the spheroidization process induced by ECAP was governed by the conventional boundary-splitting mechanism. The nearly-Burgers orientation relationship between the spheroidized a- and b-phases was revealed. This intriguing result can be attributed to the very high cooper...
