Children who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) are likely to exhibit difficulties in development of psychosocial skills, pragmatic language skills, and use of hearing for social communication in real-world environments. Some evidence suggests that pragmatic language use affects peer-relationships and school engagement in these children. However, no studies have investigated the influence of functional auditory performance and use of language and speech in real-world environments on children’s be...

Selatogrel, a potent and reversible antagonist of the P2Y12 receptor, inhibited FeCl3-induced thrombosis in rats. Here, we report the anti-thrombotic effect of selatogrel after subcutaneous applications in guinea pigs and mice. Selatogrel inhibited platelet function only 10 min after subcutaneous application in mice. In addition, in a modified Folts thrombosis model in guinea pigs, selatogrel prevented a decrease in blood-flow, indicative of the inhibition of ongoing thrombosis, approximately 10...

(1) Introduction: Most studies rely on in-hospital data to predict cardiovascular risk and do not include prehospital information that is substantially important for early decision making. The aim of the study was to define clinical parameters in the prehospital setting, which may affect clinical outcomes. (2) Methods: In this population-based study, we performed a retrospective analysis of emergency calls that were made by patients to the largest private emergency medical services (EMS) in Isra...
Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in children is frequently associated with liver pathology manifested as transient elevation of liver enzymes or specified liver diseases. The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence and the type of liver pathology in children with IBD within 2 years’ follow-up after the IBD diagnosis. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed records of children with IBD. Liver pathology was defined as elevated activity of liver enzymes (alanine transaminase (ALT) ...

Continuous Intrathecal Drug Delivery through an implanted pump is a well-known therapeutic option for the management of chronic pain and severe disabling spasticity. To have a successful therapy, pump refills need to be performed at regular time intervals after implantation. In line with the increased applications of Hospital at Home, these refill procedures might be performed at the patient’s home. The aim of this pilot study is to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of intrathe...
(1) Objective: hypercoagulability in patients with malignant neoplasm were evaluated to examine the relationship with thrombosis. (2) Methods: clot waveform analysis (CWA)—activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and CWA—small amount of tissue factor induced FIX activation (sTF/FIXa) assays were performed in 92 patients with malignant neoplasm and the relationship between hypercoagulability and thrombosis was retrospectively examined. (3) Results: The study population included 92 patients wi...
(1) Background: The death of a baby in utero is a very sad event for both the affected parents and the caring doctors. By this study, we aimed to assess the tools, which may help obstetricians to overcome this challenge in their profession. (2) Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey in 1526 obstetricians registered with the Austrian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology between September and October 2020. (3) Results: With a response rate of 24.2% (n = 439), our study shows that di...

Background—Several methods to reduce radiation exposure in the setting of coronary procedures are available on the market, and we previously showed that additional radiation shields reduce operator exposure during radial interventions. We set out to examine the efficacy of real-time personal dosimetry monitoring in a real-world setting of radial artery catheterization. Methods and Results—In an all-comer prospective, parallel study, consecutive coronary diagnostic and intervention procedures wer...
The alterations in thyroid function during recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) treatment have been reported by many authors since this therapy became widely available for patients with growth hormone deficiency (GHD). Decrease of thyroxine level is the most frequent observation in patients treated with rhGH. This paper presents literature data describing changes in thyroid function related to rhGH therapy and a current explanation of mechanisms involved in this phenomenon. The effect of GH o...

Loss of elbow motion can lead to disability in everyday gestures, recreational activities, and work. Unfortunately, the elbow joint is particularly prone to stiffness because of its complex anatomy and biomechanics. The etiology of elbow stiffness is varied and must be diagnosed accurately in order to allow optimal treatment, which may be challenging for surgeons and physiotherapists. Its treatment can be either conservative, arthroscopic or surgical, with a trend for arthroscopic procedures whe...
