The first total synthesis of resveratrone and iso-resveratrone based on an epoxide olefination approach is described. The pivotal reaction proceeds by insertion of the lithiated epoxide into a boronic ester and subsequent syn-elimination. Resveratrone has been described to have remarkable photophysical properties, including two-photon absorption. Therefore, an azide derivative has been prepared to allow for use as a biological label.

The crystal structure of Be3Ru is described as a ‘coloring’ variant of the hexagonal closest packing of spheres. This “metallic character” goes along with the low number of electrons in the last shell per atom (ELSA). In contrast to the typical intermetallic compounds, the electronic density of states of Be3Ru shows a pseudo-gap in the vicinity of the Fermi level.

Four mixed-halide cluster salts with chloride-iodide-supported octahedral Nb6 metal atoms cores were prepared and investigated. Using first-principles calculations, biaxial tensile (ϵ=2 and 4 %) and compressive (ϵ=-2 and -4 %) straining of Na2 MnSiO4 lattices resulted into radial distance cut offs of 1.65 and 2 Å, respectively, in the first and second nearest neighbors shell from the center.
