Most nanomedicines that attack tumors by Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) based on lipid peroxidation mechanisms require external activation to work. The leading example is Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), for which an external light source stimulates ROS production. PDT has been utilized in the treatment of melanoma patients as part of palliative care, and it has shown promise in clinical trials. However, it has several limitations in terms of practical application, such as inadequate photosensitizers ...

We present the synthesis development of amphiphilic, degradable poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (PEtOx) analogue block copolymers in a modular fashion utilizing the strain-promoted azide-alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC). Subsequently to preliminary ω-end group oxidation studies by means of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry, a clickable, degradable poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline-stat-glycine) was synthesized via a three steps post-polymerization synthesis procedure comprising the hydr...

Lignin is a highly abundant biopolymer that is a by-product formed during paper manufacturing. Lignin is degraded by certain lignase-producing fungi and is relatively stable towards hydrolysis, which makes it an attractive material for diverse applications ranging from packaging to agrochemical delivery. However, a major challenge that hinders the large-scale use of lignin is its ill-defined chemical structure as a crosslinked copolymer with a variable comonomer composition, which results in str...

Late-transition metal complexes containing N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are still limited in the field of olefin polymerization, especially in the copolymerization of olefins with polar monomers. In this contribution, a series of tridentate imidazo[1,5-a]quinolin-9-olate-1-ylidene (IzQO) palladium catalysts 4a–4d with dimethylaminoethyl as a side arm were synthesized by Rh(III)-catalyzed C–H bond activation and annulation reactions from the tridentate o-aryloxide-NHC palladium complex 3. In th...

The development of bioimaging technology in recent years has shown that second near-infrared (NIR-II) fluorescence imaging (FI) is gradually replacing the traditional visible light and first near-infrared (NIR-I) FI. In the NIR-II window, the light absorption, autofluorescence and scattering of biological tissues are significantly reduced, which strongly promotes the design, development and application of contrast agents with NIR-II emission capabilities. However, the NIR-II bioimaging technolog...

Conjugated macrocycle polymers (CMPs) are an emerging class of organic porous materials with built-in supramolecular macrocycles in the conjugated skeleton through robust covalent bonds. Ideally, such an ingenious combination of extended π-conjugated networks and macrocycles with intrinsic cavities can offer enormous flexibility for molecular design to produce multiple binding sites and hierarchical aperture structures. CMPs can be constructed through kinetically controlled irreversible polymeri...

α-Diimine catalysts with rigid steric hindrance groups demonstrated great potential in the field of olefin polymerization. We have recently focused on developing bulky yet flexible alkyl-substituted α-diimine catalysts and their application in the olefin insertion polymerization. In this contribution, we described the synthesis and characterization of a series of unsymmetrical α-diimine ligands bearing flexible cycloalkyl and rigid diphenylmethyl moieties and the corresponding Ni(II) and Pd(II) ...

The statistical anionic copolymerisation of the biobased monomer β-myrcene with styrene in cyclohexane was investigated via in situ near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, focusing on the influence of the modifiers (i.e., Lewis bases) tetrahydrofuran (THF) and 2,2-di(2-tetrahydrofuryl)propane (DTHFP) on the reactivity ratios. With increasing [modifier]/[Li] ratio, the reactivity ratios in the system myrcene/styrene are adjustable from rS ≪ rMyrvia rS ≈ rMyr to rS ≫ rMyr. The bidentate modifier DTHFP a...

A new photochemical approach for the synthesis of metal-free three-dimensional hollow spherical conjugated polymers is described. Irradiation of solutions containing a specially designed monomer, namely 4,4′-bis(N-carbazolyl)-1,1′-biphenyl (CBP) possessing both carbazole and biphenyl units, in the presence of iodonium salt (Ph2I+PF6−) at 350 nm resulted in the formation of a dark colored corresponding polymer, poly(4,4′-bis(N-carbazolyl)-1,1′-biphenyl) (PCBP). Polymerization proceeds through a s...

A series of polyvinyl ketals was synthesized by the condensation of commercially available polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and biobased ketones, raspberry ketone, zingerone, D-dihydrocarvone, and levulinic acid, as well as acetone, butanone, 3-pentanone, cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone, 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanone, along with the aldehyde furfural. Ketalization was confirmed and measured by 1H NMR, ranging from 15.3 to 69.2%. The number average molecular weights of the polyvinyl ketals ranged from 24 400...
