Background null Gestational hyperglycemia increases the risk of diabetes in later life. However, the risk of future cardiovascular diseases (CVD) related to gestational hyperglycemia remains inconclusive. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of gestational hyperglycemia on the subsequent risk of CVD and its modifying factors among elderly Chinese women. null Methods null We conducted a case-control study of elderly women from the baseline survey of Risk Evaluation of cAncers i...

BACKGROUND: Diabetes is a risk factor for poor COVID-19 outcomes, but pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes are poorly represented in current studies. METHODS: T1D Exchange coordinated a US type 1 diabetes COVID-19 registry. Forty-six diabetes centers submitted pediatric cases for patients with laboratory confirmed COVID-19. Associations between clinical factors and hospitalization were tested with Fisher's Exact Test. Logistic regression was used to calculate odds ratios for hospitalization. ...

BACKGROUND Appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM) and grip strength (GS) have been suggested to be related to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), but their association with type 2 diabetes (T2D) remains unclear. Therefore, we examined the combined association of ASM and GS with the prevalence of CVD in patients with T2D. METHODS A total of 1230 patients with T2D were recruited and divided into four groups based on the sex-specific median values of ASM adjusted for body mass index (ASM/BMI; short: S...

BACKGROUND To describe checkpoint inhibitor-induced diabetes mellitus (CPI-DM) and to compare with regular type 1 (T1DM), type 2 (T2DM), and medication-induced diabetes mellitus (MI-DM). METHODS We included 88 177 adult patients from the Diabetes Patient Follow-Up (DPV) registry with diabetes manifestation between 2011 and 2020. Inclusion criteria were T1DM, T2DM, MI-DM, or CPI-DM. Because of the heterogeneity between the groups, we matched patients by age, sex, and diabetes duration using prope...

Background null Creatinine-to-cystatin C ratio has attracted substantial interest as a measure to reflect health wellbeing, but no studies have assessed whether its longitudinal changes are associated with risk of diabetes. We aimed to examine their association, along with the exploration of the relationship of such changes with cardiometabolic control in middle-aged and older adults. null Materials and methods null We included a total of 3,278 participants aged ≥45 years who provided measuremen...

BACKGROUND Poor glycaemic control in children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) may hinder sexual development and the associated growth spurt. This study aims to identify factors that may affect the timing of puberty, total pubertal growth (TPG), and final height (F-Ht) in boys with T1D. METHODS A retrospective longitudinal study of 68 boys diagnosed with T1D during 1996-2009, who were pre-pubertal at diagnosis and had completed puberty at the time of data collection. Data were accessed regarding anthr...
