Bypass grafting is a technique used in the treatment of vascular disease, which is currently the leading cause of mortality worldwide. While technology has moved forward over the years, synthetic grafts still show significantly lower rates of patency in small diameter bypass operations compared to the gold standard (autologous vessel grafts). Scaffold morphology plays an important role in vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) performance, with studies showing how fibre alignment and surface roughne...

The current study focuses on the fabrication of calcium hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) (HA) in a nanorange having whiskers- and cubic-shaped uniform particle morphology. The synthesized HA particles hold a promising feature as reinforcement fillers in dental acrylic resin composite. They increase the efficacy of reinforcement by length and aspect ratio, uniformity, and monodispersity. Therefore, the acrylic resin was reinforced with the as-synthesized monodispersed HA filler particles (0.2-1 W...

The work demonstrates the preparation of PLGA (PLGA 50:50, PLGA 75:25) nanoparticles, to encapsulate a hydrophobic molecule (coumarin-6), using the microreactor-based continuous process. The formulations were characterized using dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy to determine their size, homogeneity, zeta potential, and surface morphology. The resulting nanoparticles were safe to the CHO cells (≈80% cell survival), at the concentration of ≤600 µg/mL and were successful...

Topical hemostatic agents have become essential tools to aid in preventing excessive bleeding in surgical or emergency settings and to mitigate the associated risks of serious complications. In the present study, we compared the hemostatic efficacy of SURGIFLO® Hemostatic Matrix Kit with Thrombin (Surgiflo—flowable gelatin matrix plus human thrombin) to HEMOBLAST™ Bellows Hemostatic Agent (Hemoblast—a combination product consisting of collagen, chondroitin sulfate, and human thrombin). Surgiflo ...

Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) are generally utilized in cosmetic goods, sheds, biosensors, and delivery of drug. As in vitro ideal systems, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are used to test acute toxicity. In the present study, size-dependent cytotoxicity effects of ZnO NPs on MSCs were assessed. Bone marrow and adipose MSCs were treated with ZnO NPs with average sizes of 10-30 and 35-45 nm. The 5 and 10 µg/ml concentrations of ZnO NP were found to be the safe concentrations for the NP sizes...

The current study aimed to evaluate the effects of chemokine stromal cell-derived factor (SDF)-1α and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on bone formation and angiogenesis, and to assess whether SDF-1α and PRP could function synergistically. Four evenly distributed defects (8 mm in diameter) were generated in the calvarial bones of New Zealand white rabbits. All rabbits received four treatment regimens containing autogenous bone particles (AB), SDF-1α, or PRP. AB group presented significantly less bone ...

The extracellular matrix regulates cell survival, proliferation, and differentiation. In vitro two-dimensional cell experiments are typically performed on a plastic plate or a substrate of a single extracellular matrix constituent such as collagen or calcium phosphate. As these approaches do not include extracellular matrix proteins or growth factors, they fail to mimic a complex cell microenvironment. The cell-derived matrix is an alternative platform for better representing the in vivo microen...

INTRODUCTION Recurrent dislocations are still the most frequent reason for revision in total hip arthroplasty (THA). The impact of bearing surfaces on dislocations is still controversial. We hypothesized that: (1) bearing surfaces influence the revisions due to dislocations; (2) ceramic-on-ceramic reduced the revisions for dislocations in adjusted models; (3) Delta-on-Delta bearings reduced the revisions for dislocations in comparison to surfaces with cross-linked polyethylene. MATERIALS AND MET...

Despite recent advances in the treatment of human colon cancer, the chemotherapeutic efficacy against colon cancer is still unsatisfactory. The complexity in colorectal cancer treatment leads to new research in combination therapy to overcome multidrug resistance in cancer and increase apoptosis. The objective of the present research work was to develop polyplexes for co-delivery of plasmid DNA with retinoic acid against colorectal cancer cell line (HCT-15). Plain polyplexes were prepared using ...
