OBJECTIVE Thyroid eye disease (TED) is a debilitating autoimmune disease characterized by ocular/periorbital tissue inflammation, proptosis, and visual impairment. Known risk factors for TED include radioactive iodine therapy, female sex, and smoking. Risk factors for severe TED include hyperthyroidism, male sex, smoking, and diabetes, but little is known on how diabetes mellitus (DM) influences TED. This claims-based analysis examined TED characteristics in patients with and without diabetes. M...

Abstract: null null Objective null To investigate the pharmacokinetics of 17s-estradiol administered orally versus sublingually in transgender women. null null null Methods null Single doses of 17s-estradiol were administered orally (1 mg) to ten transgender women, then sublingually (1 mg) after a one-week washout. Blood samples were taken at baseline and T = 1,2,3,4,6,8 hours after dosing. Samples were frozen and analyzed using LC-MS/MS (liquid chromatography mass spectrometry) and immunoassay....

ABSTRACT null null Objective null We compared the efficacy of the second-generation basal insulin degludec (IDeg) to that of insulin aspart via pump using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in patients with well-controlled type 1 diabetes. null null null Methods null In this 40-week, single center, randomized, crossover-controlled trial, adults with well-controlled type 1 diabetes (HbA1c null null null null Results null 52 subjects were randomized and completed both treatment periods. Abstract null null Objective null Anemia is a known complication of diabetes mellitus (DM); however, its prevalence and prognostic relevance in patients with DM and pre-DM with normal kidney function is not well-defined. This study assessed the prevalence of anemia in DM and pre-DM patients and evaluated its association with clinical outcomes during 4-years’ follow-up. null null null Methods null This retrospective analysis included patients with DM and pre-DM referred to the Meir Medical Center...

Abstract null null Objective null Hyperglycemia often occurs after the transition from intravenous insulin infusion (IVII) to subcutaneous insulin. Weight-based basal insulin initiated earlier in the course of IVII in the medical intensive care unit (MICU), and a weight-based basal-bolus regimen after IVII, can potentially improve post-IVII glycemic control by 48 hours. null null null Methods null This prospective study included 69 patients in MICU who were on IVII for ≥24 hours. Exclusions were...

Abstract null null Objective null The goal of this randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial was to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of oral 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25(OH)D3) in improving vitamin D status in vitamin D–deficient/vitamin D–insufficient patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus. null null null Methods null This is a multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Participants were recruited from 3 hospitals that are aff...
