A retrospective study compared outcomes of total wrist arthrodesis as a salvage for total wrist arthroplasty versus primary total wrist arthrodesis. Seventy-one wrists were reviewed after a minimum follow-up of 12 months. Thirty-two wrists with failed total wrist arthroplasty were converted to a wrist arthrodesis and 39 wrists received a primary wrist arthrodesis. Seven converted wrist arthrodeses and five primary arthrodeses failed to fuse. Mean patient-rated wrist and hand evaluation scores an...

Seven aspects of the management of acute scaphoid fractures are open to debate: Diagnosis of true fractures among suspected fractures, assessment of fracture displacement, cast immobilization strategies, the role of surgical fixation, proximal pole fractures, assessment of union, and the underlying objective of treatment. We reviewed current evidence, and our varied interpretations of it, to highlight areas of uncertainty where more evidence might be helpful.

Purpose null Evidence to date shows that distal radius fracture displacement measured on radiographs does not correlate with patient-reported outcomes. Quantitative 3-dimensional computed tomography (CT) (Q3DCT) potentially captures fracture displacement more accurately. We aimed to assess the independent association between radiographic, CT, and Q3DCT measures of residual displacement and change in disability, quality of life, range of motion (ROM), and grip strength 12 weeks and 1 year after v...

Purpose null The aim of this study was to evaluate the 2-year clinical and patient-reported outcomes of thumb interphalangeal (IP) joint arthroplasty. null Methods null In this prospective pilot study, we included patients who received a surface replacing implant at the thumb IP joint. Patients rated their pain at rest on a numeric rating scale (0-10) and completed the brief Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire. The range of motion of the IP joint was also measured. If the patient acceptable sym...

Purpose null null null Brachial plexus injuries null null (BPI) with complete root avulsions remains a clinical challenge due to a paucity of nerves available for null nerve transfer null and innervation of free functioning null null null muscle transfers null null (FFMT). The hypoglossal and hemihypoglossal nerve has not been studied as a donor nerve option for FFMTs in null brachial plexus null reconstruction, despite successful outcomes of hypoglossal nerve transfers in facial reanimation sur...
