The chemokine CXCL13 is used as complement to serology in the diagnostics of Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB). We evaluated and compared the semi-quantitative, cassette-based ReaScan CXCL13 assay with the quantitative recomBead CXCL13 assay using a collection of 209 cerebrospinal fluid samples. The categorical agreement between results interpreted as negative, grey zone, and positive by the two methods was 87%. The diagnostic sensitivity was higher using the recomBead assay, whereas specificity was h...

The humoral and cellular immunity of convalescent COVID-19 patients is involved in pathogenesis and vaccine immunity. In this study, through CoV-psV neutralization assay and IFN-γ ELISpot testing in 30 cases of COVID-19 patients after 9 months post-SARS-CoV-2 infection, it found that the ratio of memory/naive CD4+ T lymphocytes cells and levels of anti-SARS-CoV-2-IgM and RBD-IgM were slightly but significantly higher in COVID-19 severe convalescent patients than that in non-severe patients. The ...

Necrotizing soft-tissue infection (NSTI) is a life-threatening pathology that often requires management in intensive care unit (ICU). Therapies consist of early diagnosis, adequate surgical source control, and antimicrobial therapy. Whereas guidelines underline the need for appropriate routine microbiological cultures before starting antimicrobial therapy in patients with suspected sepsis or septic shock, delaying adequate therapy also strongly increases mortality. The aim of the present study w...
This study aims to evaluate risk factors associated with treatment failure and the antibiotics prescribed by primary care physicians in a large patient cohort treated for pneumonia in the community. A retrospective cohort study based on the databases of Maccabi Healthcare Services that provide healthcare to a quarter of the Israeli population. Included patients were > 12 years and diagnosed with pneumonia in the outpatient setting. Cohort 1 included patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CA...

This study is to analyze the dynamic changes of inflammation and oxidative stress in mice infected with MRSA and to provide experimental basis for clinically formulating reasonable treatment plans. We established a model of MRSA infection in mice, detected the fluctuations in the concentration of proinflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress factors with time, and combined with the results of microscopic examination of tissue sections to explain the infection in vivo caused by MRSA. The results...
The spread of ESBL producers in the community may impact the management of patients with bloodstream infections (BSI) involving Enterobacterales in emergency departments. Thus, from 2006 to 2018, data for all BSI episodes involving Enterobacterales from the emergency department of a French teaching hospital were retrospectively included. Antimicrobial susceptibility test results and empirical antibiotic regimens were recorded. Treatment was considered as appropriate if all isolates were suscepti...

The purpose of this study was to investigate if the C. acnes present at the end of a primary shoulder arthroplasty could be responsible for shoulder arthroplasty infection. Prospective study includes patients undergoing primary shoulder arthroplasty from January 2015 until December 2018. From all the patients included, 5 to 12 tissue samples were obtained and were specifically cultured to detect the presence of C. acnes. DNA was extracted from the C acnes isolated colonies and Whole Genome Seque...

We describe a case of recurrent catheter-related blood stream infections (BSI) with Staphylococcus aureus, in which the first isolate tested susceptible to penicillin, while subsequent isolates were resistant. Phenotypic susceptibility correlated with the absence/presence of the blaZ gene. The in vitro stability of penicillin resistance was investigated by subculturing single colonies. In two out of five colonies, phenotypical resistance was lost after a single subculture, which correlated with ...

For diagnosis of neuroborreliosis, calculation of the antibody index, based on Euroimmun Anti-Borrelia plus VlsE ELISA was compared to Virotech Borrelia Europe plus TpN17 immunoblot-based detection of Borrelia-specific intrathecal antibody production. CXCL13 results in cerebrospinal fluid were used to evaluate discordant results. A total of 64 serum/CSF pairs were analysed. Patients were classified according to European Federation of Neurological Societies criteria incorporating Virotech results...
