The last decade, a growing number of evidence support J-shape or inverse - instead of positive linear -- associations between dietary sodium intake and cardiovascular morbidity/mortality. A careful evaluation of these studies leads to the following observations: less accurate methods for dietary sodium assessment are usually used; most studies included high-risk participants, enhancing the possibility of a 'reverse causality' phenomenon. However, these limitations do not explain all the findings...

Background Although the clinical presentation of fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) and its generalized character has been previously described in adults, data on FMD in children are limited. Method In this study, we aimed to assess visceral artery involvement in pediatric FMD patients with documented renal artery stenosis (RAS) and renovascular hypertension (RVH) in comparison with healthy individuals. We retrospectively analyzed the results of angiographic studies of 16 patients with a median age o...

BACKGROUND Acute and diffuse microvascular damage characterizes malignant hypertension (MHT), the deadliest form of hypertension (HTN). Although its ophthalmological, renal and cardiological repercussions are well known, brain involvement is considered rare with few descriptions, although it is one of the main causes of death. We hypothesized that brain MRI abnormalities are common in MHT, even in patients without objective neurological signs. METHOD We analyzed retrospectively the brain MRI of ...

OBJECTIVE Nocturnal hypertension and nondipping systolic blood pressure (SBP) are associated with increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. Short and long sleep duration (SSD and LSD) are also associated with increased CVD risk and may be risk factors for nocturnal hypertension and nondipping SBP. We examined the association between SSD and LSD with sleep BP, nocturnal hypertension, and nondipping SBP among 647 white and African American Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDI...
