Abstract null null The microstructure and mechanical properties of as-cast and isothermally annealed CxHf0.25NbTaW0.5 (x=0, 0.05, 0.15, 0.25) refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) were studied. Both the as-cast and annealed RHEAs consisted of disordered body-centered cubic solid solution phase and metal carbide (MC) phase with a face-centered cubic crystal structure (Fm-3m space group). The primary carbides were enriched with Hf and C elements and tended to form lamellar eutectic-like microstru...

Abstract null null NbMoTaW-based refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) are now at the research frontier of advanced metallic materials due to outstanding mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. However, the poor plasticity of NbMoTaW-based RHEAs at room temperature hinders further development. The present work proposes a new strategy to tailor in-situ forming heterogeneous structures and improve the room-temperature mechanical properties of NbMoTaW-based RHEAs. A novel series of as-cast...

Acinetobacter baumannii and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are two prevalent pathogens and have developed high resistant to most antibiotics. Therefore, it is a pressing need to develop a new method to inhibit the spread of drug-resistant bacteria. Copper containing high-entropy alloy (HEA, Al0.4CoCrCuFeNi) is a new kind of alloy material, which shows extensive antibacterial activity and mechanical properties in our previous research. This study further develops another HEA (...

Abstract null null Eutectic high entropy alloys (EHEAs) have attracted considerable interest because of their excellent casting fluidity and outstanding mechanical properties. In this study, a novel system of EHEAs, namely CrFeNixV0.64Ta0.36 (1.3 ≤ x ≤ 1.9) was designed and prepared. The microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of CrFeNixV0.64Ta0.36 EHEAs were investigated in as-cast state. The results showed that the alloy was composed of σ-phase, Fe7Ta3-type intermetallic compounds (...

A novel Al0.5V0.1FeCrMnNi0.9 high-entropy alloy was designed to achieve enhanced strength and plasticity. The as-cast Al0.5V0.1FeCrMnNi0.9 alloy shows a typical dendritic microstructure consisting of a body-centered cubic-structured matrix phase and a B2-structured nanoprecipitate phase. Nanoprecipitates are homogeneous and dispersed in the matrix. The as-cast Al0.5V0.1FeCrMnNi0.9 alloy exhibits a compressive yield strength of 1.104 GPa, a fracture strength of 2.926 GPa, and a fracture strain of...

Recently, eutectic high-entropy alloys (EHEAs) have attracted considerable attention owing to their outstanding mechanical properties and excellent castability. However, EHEA design remains a huge challenge. Traditional grouping design strategies excessively depend on the reported alloy composition. Meanwhile, the quantitative boundary conditions of grouping strategies remain unclear. This work proposes a grouping strategy via the d-orbit energy level ( ΔMdij) to design EHEAs. The ΔMdij model wa...

Bi2WO6 nanoplate/TiO2 nanowire and Bi2WO6 nanoflower/TiO2 nanowire composite films were successfully prepared using a hydrothermal method. The results show that the light absorption for Bi2WO6/TiO2 composite films is extended to the visible region after Bi2WO6 nanoplates and nanoflowers are assembled onto TiO2 nanowires. Furthermore, Bi2WO6 nanoflower/TiO2 nanowire composite film exhibits a better absorption property compared to Bi2WO6 nanoplate/TiO2 nanowire film, which is mainly ascribed to th...

Abstract null null A series of novel B2-ordered Ti2ZrHf0.5VNb0.5Alx refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) was designed and prepared by vacuum arc-melting. The effect of Al alloying on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and oxidation properties was investigated. The Al addition triggers the transformation of the crystal structure from disordered BCC phase to ordered B2 phase, and the Al1 alloy present single B2 phase structure. This B2 ordering results in significant yield strength incre...
