Trismus, a condition of reduced opening of the jaws, is one of the most common and disabling side effects after treatment for head and neck cancer (HNC). During follow-up, about one-third of patients with HNC present trismus with a peak at 6 months after radiotherapy [1]. A limited range of motion of the jaws may interfere with daily activities such as speaking, eating and swallowing, and may hinder examination and treatments requiring access to the oral cavity [2].
