Excessive myocardial oxygen consumption (MVO 2 ) is considered a limitation for catecholamines, termed oxygen cost of contractility. We hypothesize that increased MVO 2 induced by dobutamine is not directly related to contractility but linked to intermediary myocardial metabolism.
