• FeV 2 O 4 /g-C 3 N 4 was prepared by in-situ liquid chemical strategy and CVD. • FeV 2 O 4 /g-C 3 N 4 has exceptional photocatalysis activity, selectivity and stability. • Rapid carrier separation via Z-scheme was achieved for promoted performance. • Direct Z-scheme photocatalytic mechanism is proposed.
