Abstract
Purpose null To describe myopic nontractional foveal detachment associated with pachychoroid diseases. null Methods null This retrospective study included 15 myopic eyes which had nontractional serous foveal detachment. The eyes were divided into myopic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) group (n = 8) and a myopic pachychoroid neovascularization (PNV) group (n = 7) according to the presence of type 1 choroidal neovascularization on multimodal imaging. The findings of multimodal imaging and treatment response were described. null Results null In myopic CSC group, pachychoroid features such as pachyvessels, choroidal vascular hyperpermeability and punctate hyperfluorescent spots were noted in 8 eyes (100%), 8 eyes (100%), 5 eyes (62.5%) respectively. The above features were noted in 7 eyes (100%), 5 eyes (83.3%), 5 eyes (83.3%), respectively, in the myopic PNV group. Five of 8 eyes in myopic CSC and all 7 eyes received treatment including anti-vascular endothelial growth factor injection and/or photodynamic therapy. However, only five eyes had a complete response. null Conclusions null The pachychoroid phenotype may coexist with high myopia and lead to myopic nontractional serous foveal detachment. Our series suggest that the response to treatment for these conditions would be limited.

Purpose To analyze the choroidal thickness (CT) of each type of myopic maculopathy, and to establish an OCT-based classification of myopic maculopathy. Design Retrospective, hospital-based, cross-sectional study. Participants Highly myopic (HM) eyes that were examined by swept-source OCT. Methods The CT was measured at the subfovea and at 3 mm nasal, temporal, superior, and inferior to the fovea. Myopic maculopathy was classified as tessellation, diffuse atrophy, patchy atrophy, and macular atro...

Abstract Myopia is a highly frequent ocular disorder worldwide and pathologic myopia is the 4th most common cause of irreversible blindness in developed countries. Pathologic myopia is especially common in East Asian countries. Ocular alterations associated with pathologic myopia, especially those involving the macular area鈥攄efined as myopic maculopathy鈥攁re the leading causes of vision loss in patients with pathologic myopia. High myopia is defined as the presence of a highly negative refractive...

Topic The aim of this article is to review and compile available information on the classification, pathophysiology, and clinical features of myopic choroidal neovascularization (CNV); to describe the latest data on the management of this disease; and to present guidance. Clinical Relevance In the United States, myopia affects approximately 34 million people (2010), and similar figures have been reported in Europe. Pathologic myopia (PM), a possible consequence of myopia, is estimated to affect ...

Importance Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) is a common subtype of exudative age-related macular degeneration among Asian individuals. To our knowledge, there are no large randomized clinical trials to evaluate intravitreal ranibizumab, with and without verteporfin photodynamic therapy (vPDT), for the treatment of PCV. Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of combination therapy of ranibizumab and vPDT with ranibizumab monotherapy in PCV. Design, Setting, and Participants A double-...

PURPOSE: To study multimodal imaging features of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) associated with central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) in the same eye. METHODS: A retrospective observational study of cases of suspected PCV which underwent indocyanine green angiography, fundus fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography was done, to look for simultaneous typical CSC-like active leak in the same eye. The relevant history, best-corrected visual acuity, optical coherence tomogr...

Importance Visual impairment (VI) and blindness continue to be major public health problems worldwide. Despite previously published studies on VI in Chinese and other racial/ethnic populations, there are no data specific to Chinese American adults. Objectives To determine the age- and sex-specific prevalence and causes of VI and blindness in adult Chinese Americans and to compare the prevalence to other racial/ethnic groups. Design, Setting, and Participants In this population-based, cross-secti...

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in elderly people globally. It is estimated that there will be more Asians with AMD than the rest of the world combined by 2050. In Asian populations, polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) is a common subtype of exudative AMD, while choroidal neovascularization secondary to AMD (CNV-AMD) is the typical subtype in Western populations. The two subtypes share many common clinical features and risk factors, but a...

Purpose Myopia is a common cause of vision loss, with uncorrected myopia the leading cause of distance vision impairment globally. Individual studies show variations in the prevalence of myopia and high myopia between regions and ethnic groups, and there continues to be uncertainty regarding increasing prevalence of myopia. Design Systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of the prevalence of myopia and high myopia and estimated temporal tren...

Purpose To assess whether optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) can be used as an alternative to conventional fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) for the detection of myopic choroidal neovascularization (CNV). Design Validity and reliability analysis. Methods Twenty-eight eyes of 26 consecutive Japanese patients with exudative lesions associated with pathologic myopia were included in this institutional study. Myopic CNV was detected in 23 eyes of 22 patients; 5 eyes exhibited simple ...
