Abstract
Hydrogels are composed of three dimensional structures with hydrated polymeric network. Nowadays, an exhaustive research has been carried out throughout the world related to the biomedical, pharmaceutical and environmental applications of hydrogels. Such materials possesses superabsorbent properties which can be controlled by varying the concentration, temperature, pH etc. of the external stimuli environment. In biomedical field, the super intelligent hydrogels have gained a significant interest from many researchers in a wide variety of applications including tissue engineering, drug delivery, diagnostics, imaging and optics. The purpose of this review is to present a broad view regarding the properties of hydrogels aiming at biomedical applications, their classification and different preparation methods. This review also highlights the recent literature covering important results related to some biomedicaly important hydrogels. In addition, some important miscellaneous applications of the hydrogels are also described in the present review article.

Abstract Carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) has emerged as a promising biopolymer carrier for controlled release formulations of pesticide. In this study, manganese-based carboxymethyl chitosan hydrogel was facilely prepared to encapsulate and release fungicide prothioconazole in a controllable manner. The loading content (LC) and encapsulation efficiency (EE) of prothioconazole were optimized by orthogonal test. When scaled up under the optimal condition, the corresponding LC and EE were 22.17 % and...

Abstract 4D printing of swellable/shrinkable hydrogels has been viewed as an appealing approach to fabricate dynamic structures for various biomedical applications. However, 4D printing of precise hydrogel structures is still highly challenging due to the relatively poor printability of hydrogels and high surface roughness of printed pattern, when micro extrusion-based 3D printer was used. In this study, a highly printable and shape morphing hydrogel was presented for 4D printing by blending alg...

Abstract The aim of this project was to synthesize a novel nano-hydrogel (NH) and application of this nanomaterial to targeted delivery of cisplatin. The nano-hydrogel (NH) based on random copolymerization of aminoethyl methacrylamide cross-linked with polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate, was fabricated by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer method. L-histidine was conjugated to the backbone of the prepared structure. Then, the complexation of cisplatin with NHs was accomplished and ...

Abstract Novel nanocomposite hydrogels were successfully prepared by blending and crosslinking sodium alginate (SA), poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) in the presence of a fertilizer formulation containing nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). The hydrogels had a macroporous flexible core and a microporous semi- interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) shell. The crystalline nature of the NPK chemicals was retained in the hydrogel nanocomposite network. Furthermor...

Abstract Transition-metal-dopedSnO2 quantum dots were synthesized by chemical co-precipitation technique and investigated experimentally. The dots have the chemical composition Sn1-xTxO2, where T = Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, and Ni (x = 0.02 and 0.04), and were capped by polyvinylpyrrolidone. X-ray diffraction analysis has confirmed an impurity-phase-free rutile structure of the samples and the size of the synthesized particles is of the order of 2.5 nm which is supported by the transmission electron micro...

Abstract A novel and bio-based hydrogel nanocomposite were developed using reinforcement of starch grafted copolymers of 2-acrylamido-2methyl propane sulfonate and acrylic acid (starch-g-(AMPS-co-AA)) hydrogel with magnetite-functionalized cellulose nanocrystals (MCNCs). The MCNCs-hydrogel was utilized as a proficient and environmentally benign nanoadsorbent for removal of cationic dyes with great capacity and selectivity. Sugar-beet pulp (SBP) was exploited for CNCs production through acid hydr...

Abstract In this work, we developed a green strategy for the fabrication of bio-based gelatin/dextrin semi-interpenetrating network (Gel-dex-cl-polyAAm) and carbon quantum dots (CQDs) nanocomposite (CQDs/Gel-dex-cl-polyAAm) for the detection of tannic acid and removal of eosin yellow dye present in water sample. The synthesis of semi-interpenetrating network (semi-IPN) was done under hot air reaction conditions using acrylamide and N,N′-methylenbisacrylamide monomer-crosslinker system. The maxim...

Abstract The purpose of this study was to synthesize S-protected thiolated hyaluronic acid (HA) and to evaluate its potential for 3D cell culture scaffold. S-protected thiolated HA was synthesized by the covalent attachment of N-acetyl-S-((3-((2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl)oxy)-3-oxopropyl)thio)cysteine hydrazide ligand to the HA. Hydrogels were characterized for texture, swelling behavior and rheological properties. Furthermore, the potential of S-protected thiolated HA hydrogels as a scaffold for t...
