Abstract
Abstract In this research, Hyper-cross-linked polystyrene was used for simultaneous removal of nickel and lead ions. The necessary number of experiments and optimum values of each factor were determined using response surface methodology (RSM). The optimum value of temperature, nickel, and lead concentrations, and pH was obtained 60℃, 50.715 mg/L, 80 mg/L, and 7 respectively, for Ni(II) adsorption in which the nickel uptake and selectivity were calculated 146.66 mg/g and 0.511, respectively. The optimum value of temperature, nickel, and lead concentrations, and pH was obtained 65 ℃, 80 mg/L, 40 mg/L, and 7 for Pb(II) adsorption in which the lead uptake and selectivity were calculated 137.272 mg/g and 3.951, respectively. The different isotherm models have been applied for both single and multi-component systems. It was concluded that both single and multi-component systems obeyed Freundlich isotherm model, which demonstrated the heterogeneous and multi-layer of the adsorbent. Besides, thermodynamic parameters such as ΔHo, ΔSo, and ΔGo expressed the exothermic and spontaneous nature of the adsorption of nickel and lead ions. Finally, the value of ΔHo for nickel and lead ions was lower than 40 kJ/mol, which implied the process was physical.

Abstract The hyper-cross-linked polymers (HCPs) based on the polystyrene was synthesized during the Friedel-Craft reaction in various situations. The HCPs synthesis were carried out in various operating conditions including reaction time in the range of 3-23 h, the ratio of cross-linker to monomer in range of 1-5 at temperature of 80℃. In addition, the cadmium adsorption process was carried out at a temperature in the range of 25-85℃ and initial cadmium concentration in the range of 10-100 mg/L....

Abstract Heavy metal ions, especially in water sources, are a critical issue for human health and the ecosystem. Generally, industrial effluents are the most critical origins in the contamination of water sources, typically rivers and lakes. Thus, rectification of contaminated water from heavy metal ions before discharging into the environment is the primary concern for researches. Variant procedures have been suggested, such as membrane technologies, biological separations, electrochemical tech...

Abstract In this study, benzimidazole-based hyper-cross-linked polymers (HCPs) with hierarchical pores were synthesized through facile one-step Friedel-Crafts reaction and applied to the adsorption of chlortetracycline from aqueous solution. The mole ratio of benzene to benzimidazole exerted a significant impact on the morphology and adsorption performance. The nano-layer structures of HCPs brought in considerable surface area while the hierarchical canals allowed free mass transfer, which facil...

Abstract In this work, two hypercrosslinked hydroxyl-rich polymers (HCP-P and HCP-R) were facilely prepared through a one-pot Friedel-Crafts polymerization of phenol, resorcinol and formaldehyde dimethyl acetal, respectively. HCP-P and HCP-R were investigated for their ability to separate Cs+ from the salt lake brine via ion-exchange reaction between Cs+ and O-Na+. The Cs+ adsorption isotherms of HCP-P and HCP-R follow the Langmuir model, and their adsorption capacities reach 249.64 mg g-1 and 2...

Abstract The nucleophilic substitution and Friedel-Crafts alkylation were performed for chloromethylated polystyrene, and the hydroquinone-modified hyper-crosslinked polymer, namely, PS-KHQ-HCP, was prepared accordingly. The nucleophilic substitution offered plentiful oxygen for PS-KHQ-HCP and the Friedel-Crafts alkylation provided PS-KHQ-HCP with hyper-crosslinking frameworks. As a result, PS-KHQ-HCP possessed abundant oxygen (13.04 wt.%) and high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area (437 m2/g)....

Melamine-based porous organic polymers (POPs) are promising for gas uptake and water treatment for their unique and tunable porosity, high nitrogen (N) content, and high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area (SBET). However, it is difficult to construct the ketone-functioned POPs by the Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction. Herein, the ketone-functioned POPs were post-functionalized with melamine (MA) by the Schiff-based reaction and the rigid triazine ring of MA was embedded in the polymer cha...

Abstract To increase the uptake efficiency towards Au3+ and Pt2+ ions, a hydrophobic hypercrosslinked polymeric sorbent (Purosorb™ PAD600, Purolite®) was impregnated with P,S,N-containing organic ligands: diethyldithiophosphoric acid (DEDTP), diisopropyldithiophosphoric acid (DIPDTP), diisobutyldithiophosphoric acid (DIBDTP), and 2-amine-1-methylbenzimidazole (MAB). Two stable polymorphs of 2-amino-1-methylbenzoazolium chloride monohydrate were formed and structurally analyzed by X-ray diffracti...

During the production of oil and gas, a large amount of oily wastewater is generated, which would pollute the environment if discharged without proper treatment. As one of the most promising treatment options, membrane material used for oily wastewater treatment should possess desirable properties of high hydraulic performance combined with high membrane fouling resistance. This project employs the vapor induced phase separation (VIPS) technique to develop a hydrophilic polyvinylidene fluoride (...

Abstract In this study, hazardous Cr(III) trapped by a geopolymer membrane was crystallized in situ and coupled with the membrane to afford dye wastewater treatment by hybrid photocatalysis and membrane separation for the first time. The X-ray powder diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results confirmed that Cr(III) was highly dispersed on the membrane surface as nano Cr2O3 particles. The photoluminescence peak decreased with increasing ...
