Ni doped CuO Nps (Ni0.1CuO-GA) grown in gum acacia (GA) medium behaved as an efficient antibacterial material. The antibacterial activity of Ni0.1CuO-GA was much higher than the control antibiotic (Amplicillin) and simple Ni doped CuO Nps. Different concentrations of GA were used (as the growth medium) to tune the material’s bioactivity. Among the synthesized Ni0.1CuO-GA samples (G1–G4), G3 sample (synthesized using 1.5% (w/v) GA) showed optimum antibacterial activity. The corresponding undoped ...

At present, there is an urgent need in medicine and industry to develop new approaches to eliminate bacterial biofilms. Considering the low efficiency of classical approaches to biofilm eradication and the growing problem of antibiotic resistance, the introduction of nanomaterials may be a promising solution. Outstanding antimicrobial properties have been demonstrated by nanoparticles (NPs) of metal oxides and their nanocomposites. The review presents a comparative analysis of antibiofilm proper...

Abstract This review details the antimicrobial applications of inorganic nanomaterials of mostly metallic form, and the augmentation of activity by surface conjugation of peptide ligands. The review is subdivided into three main sections; of which the first describes the antimicrobial activity of inorganic nanomaterials against gram-positive, gram-negative and multidrug-resistant bacterial strains. The second section highlights the range of antimicrobial peptides and the drug resistance strategi...

Abstract Transition metal oxide nanostructures are well known as attractive multi-functional nanomaterials and are among the most promising industrial materials for different science and technology applications. The present study, describes the optical, structural, and antibacterial properties of undoped and Zn-doped CuO nanostructures synthesised by a simple low-cost sol-gel technique. The synthesised nanostructures exhibited a monoclinic CuO structure as confirmed by X-ray diffraction, Raman s...

Abstract In the last decade, a great interest in doped metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) has been fascinated, particularly, as alternative antibacterial agents due to the spread of multidrug resistant infections. A lot of methods are available for the synthesis of NPs, but the microwave assisted method is facile, rapid, and improving various properties of the synthesized material. To date, little work has been reported to investigate the effectiveness of co-doped CuO NPs synthesized by using micro...

The synergistic effects of transition metal based nanocomposites are known to possess enhanced antibacterial activities. However, in-depth analysis of the relative antibacterial performance of some of the prominent nanocomposites remains unavailable. This study compares the antibacterial activity of two separate nanocomposites, which are copper oxide with silver (CuO/Ag) and zinc oxide with silver (ZnO/Ag). The individual CuO/Ag and ZnO/Ag nanocomposites were synthesised by a mixed wet-chemical ...

Pure SnO2 and doped SnO2 nanoparticles with 2 wt.% ruthenium, 2 wt.% vanadium, and 2 wt.% antimony were synthesized via sol–gel and coprecipitation methods. The obtained doped and undoped dried powders after calcination treatment at different temperatures (973–1223 K) were studied. The structural and morphological characterization of the prepared samples was performed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), differential thermal/thermogravimetric analysis (DTA-TG), ...

In this work, the results of the structural and dielectric investigation of pure, Mn-doped, and Ni-doped ZnO nanoparticles (NPs), which have been prepared by simple sol–gel method using zinc acetate as precursor, are studied. The synthesized samples are examined via XRD at 300 K, FE-SEM, FTIR, and μ Autolab/FRA2 impedance spectroscopy techniques. XRD results and calculated lattice parameters of all synthesized samples have revealed that diffraction peaks are well matched to the JCPDS card No. 03...
