BACKGROUND Stroke is one of the most common and potentially disabling complications of infective endocarditis (IE). However, scarce data exist about stroke complicating IE after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence, risk factors, clinical characteristics, management, and outcomes of patients with definite IE after TAVR complicated by stroke during index IE hospitalization. METHODS Data from the Infectious Endocarditis ...

Abstract The STS-ACC TVT Registry (Society of Thoracic Surgeons–American College of Cardiology Transcatheter Valve Therapy Registry) from 2011 to 2019 has collected data on 276,316 patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) at sites in all U.S. states. Volumes have increased every year, exceeding surgical aortic valve replacement in 2019 (72,991 vs. 57,626), and it is now performed in all U.S. states. TAVR now extends from extreme- to low-risk patients. This is the first p...

Abstract Background Studies have suggested the diagnostic yield of echocardiography to be lower in prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) than reported in surgically-implanted valves but data are limited. Methods We reviewed transthoracic (TTE) and transesophageal (TEE) echo-Doppler findings in 17 patients with PVE (13 definite and 4 possible cases according to modified Duke criteria) after TAVR at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN between 2007 and 2016....

Abstract Infective endocarditis is defined by a focus of infection within the heart and is a feared disease across the field of cardiology. It is frequently acquired in the health care setting, and more than one-half of cases now occur in patients without known heart disease. Despite optimal care, mortality approaches 30% at 1 year. The challenges posed by infective endocarditis are significant. It is heterogeneous in etiology, clinical manifestations, and course. Staphylococcus aureus , which h...

Importance Limited data exist on clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients who had infective endocarditis after undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Objective To determine the associated factors, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of patients who had infective endocarditis after TAVR. Design, Setting, and Participants The Infectious Endocarditis after TAVR International Registry included patients with definite infective endocarditis after TAVR from 47 centers fro...

Objectives Multimodal non-invasive imaging plays a key role in establishing a diagnosis of PHV endocarditis. The objective of this study was to provide a systematic review of the literature and meta-analysis of the diagnostic accuracy of TTE, TEE, and MDCT in patients with (suspected) PHV endocarditis.

Aims To analyse the risk of death according to the type of cerebrovascular complications (CVC) during infective endocarditis (IE) and to analyse the determinants of outcome in patients with IE and a CVC. Methods and results In two referral centres, 496 consecutive patients with definite IE were prospectively included. Cerebral CT scan was performed in 453 patients. During a mean 2.9 year follow-up, 139 (28%) patients died and CVC occurred in 109 (22%) patients. Stroke was an independent predicto...
