Abstract Palladium nanoparticles encapsulated in biguanidine–functionalized chitosan matrix (Pd@CS–biguanidine) was applied as a reusable and core–shell nanocatalyst for cyanation of aryl iodides and bromides with K4[Fe(CN)6] as the cyanating agent. The nitriles were generated in good to excellent yield and the catalyst can be recycled and reapplied up to seven times with no significant change in its catalytic performance.

A main-chain N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) polymer with N-dodecyl-substituted groups was found to be a highly efficient precatalyst for cyanation of various aryl halides by using nontoxic cyanic source [K4Fe(CN)6] under relatively mild reaction conditions. Several aryl iodides, bromides, and activated chlorides were successfully converted to their corresponding benzonitrile derivatives without using additives (such as reducing agents or exogenous organic ligands) in good to excellent yields. Our ...

Abstract In this paper, for the first time, palladium nanoparticles were supported on (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane-modified copper ferrite nanoparticles. The obtained catalyst was characterized using FT-IR, TEM, EDX, AAS, XRD, and TGA analyses. The prepared heterogeneous catalyst showed superior activity toward cyanation of aryl iodides and bromides with K 4 [Fe(CN) 6 ] compared to the Fe 3 O 4 supported palladium nanoparticles, unfunctionalized CuFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles, homogeneous Pd(OAc) 2...

We report herein highly efficient photocatalysts comprising supported nanoparticles (NPs) of gold (Au) and palladium (Pd) alloys, which utilize visible light to catalyse the Suzuki cross-coupling reactions at ambient temperature. The alloy NPs strongly absorb visible light, energizing the conduction electrons of NPs which produce highly energetic electrons at the surface sites. The surface of the energized NPs activates the substrates and these particles exhibit good activity on a range of typic...

Palladium (Pd)-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions are among the most important methods in organic synthesis. We report the discovery of highly efficient and green photocatalytic processes by which cross-coupling reactions, including Sonogashira, Stille, Hiyama, Ullmann, and Buchwald–Hartwig reactions, can be driven with visible light at temperatures slightly above room temperature using alloy nanoparticles of gold and Pd on zirconium oxide, thus achieving high yields. The alloy nanoparticles abs...

Supported nanoparticles (NPs) of nonplasmonic transition metals (Pd, Pt, Rh, and Ir) are widely used as thermally activated catalysts for the synthesis of important organic compounds, but little is known about their photocatalytic capabilities. We discovered that irradiation with light can significantly enhance the intrinsic catalytic performance of these metal NPs at ambient temperatures for several types of reactions. These metal NPs strongly absorb the light mainly through interband electroni...

Abstract Aryl nitriles can be efficiently synthesized through transition-metal-mediated cyanation of aryl halides, arenes, aryl boronic acids, and so on. Among those most commonly used transition-metals, copper catalysts are surely much more inexpensive and easier to handle, compared to any other metal catalysts. Considering the high-efficiency of copper catalysts in the activation of C–X, C–H, and C–B bond as well as in the formation of C–CN bond, this Letter summarizes various copper-mediated ...

The efficient use of solar energy has received wide interest due to increasing energy and environmental concerns. A potential means in chemistry is sunlight-driven catalytic reactions. We report here on the direct harvesting of visible-to-near-infrared light for chemical reactions by use of plasmonic Au–Pd nanostructures. The intimate integration of plasmonic Au nanorods with catalytic Pd nanoparticles through seeded growth enabled efficient light harvesting for catalytic reactions on the nanost...

Abstract The activity of palladacycle [Pd{C 6 H 4 (CH 2 N(CH 2 Ph) 2 )} (μ-Br)] 2 complex was investigated in the synthesis of benzonitriles under both conventional and microwave irradiation conditions and their results were compared together. This complex is an efficient, stable, and non-sensitive to air and moisture catalyst for the cyanation reaction. The substituted benzonitriles were produced of various aryl halides in excellent yields and short reaction times using a catalytic amount of [P...
