Abstract
Low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) is recognised as disordered bowel function after rectal resection. Temporary ileostomy is associated with LARS and with reduced colonic bacteria. Faecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is the introduction of enteric bacteria from healthy donors into a patient’s gut. We hypothesise that FMT could improve bowel function after ileostomy reversal.
