Abstract A probe that can efficiently detect harmful Cr(III) and Cr(VI) at the same time is urgently needed. In aqueous solution, Cr(III) and Cr(VI) are in the form of the cation (Cr3+) and anions (CrO42−, HCrO4−, or Cr2O72−), respectively. Owning to their opposite charge, it is a great challenge to develop a two-in-one probe for Cr detection. Here, we report an amino-functionalized YF3:Eu3+ fluorescent probe that can successfully detect both Cr3+ and Cr2O72− with good selectivity. The surface amino groups can enhance the adsorption affinity of both Cr3+ and Cr2O72− ions by forming coordination bonds and electrostatic attraction, respectively. As a result, the detection limits of Cr3+ and Cr2O72− ions are determined to be as low as 1.88 μM and 1.34 μM, respectively. Finally, the amino-functionalized YF3:Eu3+ is also successfully applied to detect Cr3+ and Cr2O72− in practical rain water and tap water samples.

Certain five heavy metals viz. arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr)(VI), mercury (Hg), and lead (Pb) are non-threshold toxins and can exert toxic effects at very low concentrations. These heavy metals are known as most problematic heavy metals and as toxic heavy metals (THMs). Several industrial activities and some natural processes are responsible for their high contamination in the environment. In recent years, high concentrations of heavy metals in different natural systems including atm...

Abstract In order to increase the density and quantity of functional groups on adsorbent, three terminal amino hyperbranched polymer modified graphene oxide adsorbents including GO-HBP-NH 2 -DETA, GO-HBP-NH 2 -TETA and GO-HBP-NH 2 -TEPA with N-containing functional group density of 7.21 wt%, 10.20 wt% and 12.43 wt%, respectively, were prepared and used for the adsorption and reduction of toxic hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) to less toxic Cr(III). The morphology and structure of obtained adsorbents w...

Abstract A water-soluble fluorescent carbon dots (FCDs) from cellulose was prepared using one-pot simple hydrothermal method. In this work, a novel fluorescent probe material, fluorescent carbon dots-linked isophorone diisocyanate and β-cyclodextrin (FCDs-IPDI-CD), was prepared with FCDs, isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as raw materials. The structure and morphology of FCDs-IPDI-CD were characterized using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and transmiss...

Abstract Ratiometric fluorescence sensor exhibits advantages of sensitive response, high anti-interference ability and naked eye visualization owing to multiple independent emission peaks utilized for results analysis. To achieve such multi-emission probe, the traditional methods have involved simple mixing of two emitters or tedious synthesis processes of hybrid material. However, these probes often have problems of inconstant emission strength ratio, low light-stability, and complicated synthe...

Abstract A novel silica-based chemosensor (SBA-Is-INH) was prepared through the functionalization of mesoporous silica SBA-15 material with a fluorescent chromophore, ( Z )- N '-(2-oxoindolin-3-ylidene)isonicotinohydrazide. The synthesized materials were characterized by different techniques such as low angle XRD, N 2 adsorption-desorption, TGA, TEM and FT-IR spectroscopy. The data showed that the organic moiety (0.41 mmol g − 1 ) was successfully grafted to the SBA-15 and the primary hexagonall...

A unique metal–organic complex (MOC) with formula [Eu2(tpbpc)4·CO3·4H2O]·DMF·solvent (Htpbpc = 4′-[4,2′;6′,4″]-terpyridin-4′-yl-biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid) has been successfully constructed under solvothermal conditions. The Eu complex, as proved by structural analysis, exhibits a fascinating 1D linear-type chain structure which is further extended to a 3D H-bonded supramolecular framework. The luminescent investigations confirm that the emission behavior of the Eu complex possesses excellent wa...

A novel luminescent microporous lanthanide metal-organic framework (Ln-MOF) based on a urea-containing ligand has been successfully assembled. Structural analysis revealed that the framework features two types of 1D channels, with urea N-H bonds projecting into the pores. Luminescence studies have revealed that the Ln-MOF exhibits high sensitivity, good selectivity, and a fast luminescence quenching response towards Fe3+, Cr-VI anions, and picric acid. In particular, in the detection of Cr2O72- ...

: A novel organic-inorganic hybrid optical sensor (NUS) was designed and prepared in two steps: the grafting of 3-(isocyanatopropyl)trimethoxysilane onto the surface of SBA-15, and then the attachment of naphthalene-1-amine. The obtained materials were characterized using low-angle XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption, TGA, FT-IR, and TEM techniques.
