Summary The Sc(III) MOF-type MFM-300(Sc) is demonstrated in this study to be stable under physiological conditions (PBS), biocompatible (to human skin cells) and an efficient drug carrier for the long-term controlled release (through human skin) of antioxidant ferulate. MFM-300(Sc) also preserves the antioxidant pharmacological effects of ferulate while enhancing the bio-preservation of dermal skin fibroblasts, during the delivery process. These discoveries pave the way towards the extended use of Sc(III)-based MOFs as drug delivery systems (DDSs).

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have found uses in adsorption, catalysis, gas storage and other industrial applications. Metal Biomolecule Frameworks (bioMOFs) represent an overlap between inorganic, material and medicinal sciences, utilising the porous frameworks for biologically relevant purposes. This review details advances in bioMOFs, looking at the synthesis, properties and applications of both bioinspired materials and MOFs used for bioapplications, such as drug delivery, imaging and cata...

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are an interesting and useful class of coordination polymers, constructed from metal ion/cluster nodes and functional organic ligands through coordination bonds, and have attracted extensive research interest during the past decades. Due to the unique features of diverse compositions, facile synthesis, easy surface functionalization, high surface areas, adjustable porosity, and tunable biocompatibility, MOFs have been widely used in hydrogen/methane storage, catal...

The high storage capacities and excellent biocompatibilities of zinc(II) metal–organic frameworks (Zn-MOFs) have made them outstanding candidates as drug delivery carriers. Recent studies on the pH-responsive processes based on carrier–drug interactions have proven them to be the most efficient and effective way to control the release profiles of drugs. To satisfy the ever-growing demand in cancer therapy, great efforts are being devoted to the development of methods to precisely control drug re...

The highly porous luminescent metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) can act as fluorescent probes for the detection of nitro compounds and can also serve as containers and energy transfer platforms to construct the host–guest systems. Herein, two new three-dimensional MOFs with high porosity were prepared successfully by the electron-rich tetrakis(4-pyridylphenyl)ethylene (tppe) as ligands. Compound 1 shows the high sensitivity and selectivity toward nitro-antibiotics in an aqueous media, particularly...

Micro-scale MOFs with a persistent phosphorescence lifetime of 900 ms can be facilely synthesized by a fast precipitation process in aqueous solution. The in situ encapsulation of a dye into the MOF matrix can expressly tune the phosphorescence color from green to a rare example of red emission with a lifetime of 450 ms, highly enhancing the photoelectrocatalytic water splitting.

BACKGROUND: The rheological properties of dermal drug delivery systems are of importance when designing new formulations. Viscosity not only affects features such as spreadability and skin feel, but may also affect the skin penetration of incorporated actives. Data on the latter aspect are controversial. Our objective was to elucidate the relation between viscosity and drug delivery performance of different model hydrogels assuming that enhanced microviscosity might delay drug release and penetr...

: Embedding cubane [M4 (OH)4 ] (M=Ni, Co) clusters within the matrix of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is a strategy to develop materials with unprecedented synergistic properties. Herein, a new material type based on the pore-space partition of the cubic primitive minimal-surface net (MOF-14-type) has been realized. CTGU-15 made from the [Ni4 (OH)4 ] cluster not only has very high BET surface area (3537 m2 g-1 ), but also exhibits bi-microporous features with well-defined micropores at 0.86 nm...

Understanding the stability of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) under physiological conditions is critical in biotechnology and biomedicine for biosensing, biocatalysis, and drug delivery. The use of ZIF-8 has shown that this metal organic framework (MOF) and its derived bio-composites can degrade in presence of buffer solutions. Here we present an in-depth analysis of the structural and chemical changes of pure ZIF-8 particles exposed to phosphate buffered saline (PBS) media. Two differ...

Abstract Topical retinoids are frequently applied for therapeutic and cosmeceutical reasons although their bioavailability is low due to their chemical and photochemical instability. Moreover, skin irritation is a common side effect. Therefore, proretinal nanoparticles (PRN) as a novel formulation of topical retinoids, which are based on chitosan grafted with retinal through reversible linkage, were developed and their skin penetration behavior was studied. As nanoparticles preferably penetrate ...

BACKGROUND: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), as a new class of porous organic-inorganic crystalline hybrid materials that governed by the self-assembled of metal atoms and organic struts have attracted tremendous attention because of their special properties. Recently, some more documents have reported different types of nanoscale metal-organic frameworks (NMOFs) as biodegradable and physiological pH-responsive systems for photothermal therapy and radiation therapy in the body. DISCUSSION: In th...

Abstract Metal organic frameworks (K-β-CD-MOFs and Cs-β-CD-MOFs) were obtained on the basis of β-cyclodextrin and alkali metals (K and Cs) through a modified vapor diffusion method. This way was at 50℃ for 12h and the toxic CTAB was replaced by green PEG20000. Meanwhile, the myricetin(MYR,2mg/ml) was adsorbed by the two crystals(30mg) in the same condition at 35℃for 42h.The result displayed high adsorption capacity(282.39mg/g and 308.65mg/g). Furthermore, in order to explore adsorption mechanism...
