Abstract
Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (AChRs) enter high-affinity, non-conducting, ‘desensitized’ (D) conformations upon sustained exposure to high concentrations of agonists. Desensitized conformations resemble functionally both resting (R; low-affinity, non-conducting) and active (R∗; high-affinity, ion-conducting) states.
