Abstract Research in Named Data Networking-based Mobile Ad-hoc Network (NDN based MANET) has experienced a lot of momentum and development in recent years. Such robust developments in the specific area surely contributes to advanced possibilities that Named Data Networking (NDN) can provide compared to traditional host centric networking (HCN) solutions such as TCP/IP for dynamic routing that is much needed for MANET environment. However, our observation indicates that issues pertaining to the association of network congestion and energy wastage in NDN based MANET has never been explored by any previous researcher. In fact, discussions as to how congestion control was implemented in NDN based MANET is also scarce and no research to date has yet come forward to suggest a complete congestion control solution for NDN based MANET. Therefore, this article reviews the congestion control solution done by previous researcher for NDN in general to understand the characteristic of congestion control solution should be for NDN based MANET. Hence, this article reviews congestion control solution conducted by previous NDN researchers to generally understand as to how the characteristic of congestion control solution should ideally be for NDN based MANET. In addition to these reviews, we propose several criteria on congestion control solution that should be incorporated in the NDN based MANET environment.

Named data networking (NDN) is a novel network architecture which adopts a receiver-driven transport approach. However, NDN is the name-based routing and source uncontrollability, and network congestion is inevitable. In this paper, we propose an adaptive congestion control protocol (ACCP) which is divided into two phase to control network congestion before affecting network performance. In the first phase, we employ the time series prediction model based on deep learning to predict the source o...

Abstract In a MANET, there is no need to deploy any infrastructure to make nodes to communicate with each other. MANETs have unique characteristics that complicate congestion control. The standard TCP congestion control mechanism is not able to handle the special properties of a shared wireless multi-hop channel well. The frequent changes of the network topology and the shared nature of the wireless channel pose significant challenges. Therefore, various congestion control approaches for MANETs ...

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consist of miniature sensor nodes, capable to operate and capture events in human-inaccessible terrains. The data packets generated by these networks may either be continuous, event-based or query-driven, and are application-specific in nature. These packets need to be transmitted in an energy-efficient manner to the base station. In these networks, congestion occurs when the incoming traffic load exceeds the available capacity of the network. There are various fa...

Information-centric networking (ICN) with its design around named-based forwarding and in-network caching holds great promises to become a key architecture for the future Internet. Many proposed ICN hop-by-hop congestion control schemes assume a fixed and known link capacity, which rarely — if ever — holds true for wireless links. Firstly, we demonstrate that although these congestion control schemes are able to fairly well utilise the available wireless link capacity, they greatly fail to keep ...

Abstract With the increased growth in number of connected devices, either static or mobile ones, there is a concurrent massive increase in the accompanied data traffic volume. Therefore, and for better future communication systems with better coverage and capacity performance, the information-centric Internet of Things (IoT), is a prudent option. In this IoT paradigm, populating and reallocating Information Repeaters (IRs) is one promising way in reducing data traffic during the peak periods. Ac...

Among constituents of communication architecture, routing is the most energy squeezing process. In this survey article, we are targeting an innovative aspect of analysis on routing in wireless sensor network (WSN) that has never been seen in the available literature before. This article can be a guiding light for new researchers to comprehend the WSN technology, energy aware routing, and the factors that affect the energy aware routing in WSN. This insight comprehension then makes the ways easy ...

Congestion control is a hot topic in named data networking (NDN). Congestion control methods for NDN are classified into two approaches: the rate-based approach and the window-based approach. In the window-based approach, the optimum window size cannot be determined due to the largely changing round-trip time. Therefore, the rate-based approach is considered to be suitable for NDN and has been studied actively. However, there is still room for improvement in the window-based approach because hop...

As a promising future network architecture, named data networking (NDN) has been widely considered as a very appropriate network protocol for the multihop wireless network (MWN). In named-data MWNs, congestion control is a critical issue. Independent optimization for congestion control may cause severe performance degradation if it can not cooperate well with protocols in other layers. Cross-layer congestion control is a potential method to enhance performance. There have been many cross-layer c...

The main goal is to find multiple node-disjoint paths that meet the multi-objective optimization problem in terms of energy consumption minimization and network lifetime improvement. Due to the battery-dependent nodes in mobile ad hoc networks, the performance of the network will degrade. Hence, it is necessary to choose multiple optimal node-disjoint paths between source and destination for data transfer. Additionally, it improves the Quality of Service (QoS) of wireless networks. Multi-objecti...

Data retrieval in Named Data Networking (NDN) is based on content names irrespective of their hosting location. The NDN architecture introduces original naming, forwarding and caching techniques to improve data delivery efficiency. These distinctive techniques make the TCP congestion control scheme not suitable for the NDN architecture. In particular, the in-network caching and the multi-path forwarding used in the NDN architecture lead to fluctuations in the Round Trip Time (RTT) measurements. ...

Nodes in mobile adhoc network (MANET) can self-configure itself. They may behave differently due to its openness in structure and different energy levels. Connectivity part in MANET provides communication interface, which can be used by all kinds of users. This may cause Fishy conditions among the networks with threats. To find a single node among the vast amount of network is impossible. So, a better storage and resource management procedure may fix the above mentioned problem. Cloud storage pr...
