Investment decisions about capital-intensive, long-lived infrastructure are challenging due to uncertainty about their future performance, particularly if the performance is sensitive to climate change. Such investments, like those made for water infrastructure, are rarely evaluated over their total operational lifetime, during which socio-economic and environmental changes can cause potential lock-ins and reduced options for future choices that lead to high costs to transfer to other options. W...

Abstract We link investor heterogeneity to the persistence of the overnight and intraday components of returns. We document strong overnight and intraday firm-level return continuation along with an offsetting cross-period reversal effect, all of which lasts for years. We look for a similar tug of war in the returns of 14 trading strategies, finding in all cases that profits are either earned entirely overnight (for reversal and a variety of momentum strategies) or entirely intraday, typically w...

Abstract Trip planning is one of the most important techniques in supporting digital map services. It aims to find a set of location based services (LBSs) that can cover all user intended activities specified in query, such that the services have reasonable spatial distribution. In the temporal domain, the planned trip is supposed to satisfy all the workflow temporal dependencies among intended activities required by users. However, existing service composition solutions do not consider the comp...

Group A Streptococcus (GAS) infections result in a considerable underappreciated burden of acute and chronic disease globally. A 2018 World Health Assembly resolution calls for better control and prevention. Providing guidance on global health research needs is an important World Health Organization (WHO) activity, influencing prioritization of investments. Here, the role, status, and directions in GAS vaccines research are discussed. WHO preferred product characteristics and a research and deve...

Abstract Chickpea is susceptible to water logging and responds to soil aeration. Oxygen deficiency at both a temporal and spatial scale could occur for a subsurface drip irrigated crop, particularly in heavy clay soils. Use of aerated water irrigation (oxygation) to overcome hypoxia in the rhizosphere was evaluated in broad-acre chickpea crops in 2006 and 2007, in a heavy clay soil of central Queensland, Australia. The injection of 12% by volume air into subsurface drip irrigation water (oxygati...

Purpose Prior research has shown that operational intellectual capital (OIC) and investments in lean practices (ILP) lead to better operational performance. However, there have been no empirical studies on the synergetic effects between OIC components and ILP. More specifically, the question – can the efficacy of ILP be increased through OIC? – has not been studied. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to report the empirical results of potential synergetic effects between OIC, as a knowled...

Abstract Private equity funds hold assets that are hard to value. Managers have incentives to distort reported valuations if these reports are used by investors to decide on commitments to subsequent funds. Using a large dataset of buyout and venture funds, we test for the presence of return manipulations. We find that some underperforming managers inflate reported returns during fundraising. However, those managers are less likely to raise a next fund, suggesting that investors can see through ...

Background: The theory of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing (TCCN) was developed by Locsin (2005) to guide the expression of “technological competency as caring in nursing” among practicing nurses. While the Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing Instrument (TCCNI) was developed and translated into other languages, no instrument measuring the TCCN among Japanese nurses was developed and tested. Thus, the Perceived Inventory of Technological Competency of Caring in Nursing (PIT...

Abstract The purpose of the study is to construct a novel hybrid stochastic interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy (IVIF) decision approach to the house of quality (HoQ)-based analysis of safety management system with the respect to the energy investment risks. For this purpose, two step analyses of IVIF decision making models by using the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) are applied for weighting ...

The purpose of this study is to determine appropriate innovative strategies for the renewable energy investments. For this purpose, a hybrid multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) model is proposed based on interval type-2 (IT2) fuzzy sets and alpha cut levels. Within this context, hesitant IT2 fuzzy DEMATEL-Based Analytic Network Process (DANP) with alpha cut levels is applied for weighting the customer requirements. Moreover, hesitant IT2 fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to id...
