3,5‐Dimethoxyhomophthalic acid was prepared efficiently in three steps, from 3,5‐dimethoxybenzyl bromide via rhodium‐catalyzed direct carbonylation to 3,5‐dimethoxyphenylacetic acid followed by successive o ‐formylation and oxidation.
