Reassessment of nanomaterials immunotoxicity

Biomarkers (e.g. cytokines) that are commonly measured to assess the immunomodulatory effects of nano- or micro-particulates may be adsorbed on their surfaces and/or absorbed within internal regions, thereby, generating an inaccurately low measure of immunotoxic effect.
