Esters (mixed anhydrides) derived from aliphatic or alicyclic carboxylic acids (RCO2H) and thiohydroxamic acids 2 or 3 undergo a thermally or photochemically induced radical chain reaction to give sulphides 4 with loss of carbon dioxide.
