Elevated levels of shear stress that occur in stenotic arteries may induce platelet aggregation and initiate thrombosis. Shear-induced platelet aggregation (SIPA) was studied in groups of ischemic stroke patients and normal subjects using a viscometric-flow cytometric technique.
