Abstract
AbstractPurpose: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the profile of posterior precortical vitreous pocket (PPVP) in children using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) and to compare the profile with that of adults.Materials and methods: In this retrospective comparative study, the height at the fovea and the horizontal diameter of PPVP in healthy children and adults in the upright position were measured based on OCT (Spectralis, Heidelberg Engineering GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany) images. PPVP diameter was divided into nasal length and temporal length based on the center of the fovea. The proportion of temporal length to the entire horizontal diameter was calculated as temporal length/horizontal diameter of PPVP. The association of age with the height and the proportion of temporal length to the entire horizontal diameter were evaluated in each group. The two values were also compared between the two groups. Results: Sixty-three eyes of 63 children (mean age: 6.9 ± 1.8 years) an...

Objective To resolve the controversy surrounding the shape and relationship of posterior vitreous spaces by characterizing the connections between the premacular bursa, the area of Martegiani, and Cloquet's canal. Design Comprehensive posterior vitreous maps were created using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS OCT) in a cross-sectional study. Participants The posterior vitreous of 102 eyes of 51 volunteers 21 to 54 years of age without ocular pathologic features was imaged using SS O...

PURPOSE: We observed the posterior vitreous in children using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT). METHODS: The normal right eyes of 73 children (ages, 3-11 years) were studied using SS-OCT with 12-mm horizontal and vertical scans in the posterior fundus. RESULTS: Posterior precortical vitreous pockets (PPVPs), narrow liquefied spaces along the vitreoretinal interface in the macula (mean, 165.4 ± 35.2 μm [depth] × 3327 ± 615.7 μm [width]), were observed at age 3 in horizontal scan...

PURPOSE: To describe the vitreoretinal interface of the asymptomatic fellow eyes of patients with acute unilateral posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) based on biomicroscopic examination and spectral domain optical coherence tomography. METHODS: Sixty-five eyes of 65 consecutive patients with acute unilateral PVD were examined by slit-lamp, indirect ophthalmoscopy, and spectral domain optical coherence tomography. The state of PVD in different retinal locations and premacular pocket were assesse...

Importance Development of posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) plays an important role in vitreomacular diseases. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) with noise reduction can visualize a posterior precortical vitreous pocket (PPVP) and classify PVD stages according to the state of the posterior wall of the PPVP. Objective To describe the role of the PPVP in early-stage PVDs in healthy individuals. Design, Setting, and Participants We performed biomicroscopy and SD-OCT in the rig...

PURPOSE: To investigate the morphologic features of posterior precortical vitreous pockets (PPVPs) with positional changes using spectral domain optical coherence tomography. METHODS: The authors measured the distance between the fovea and anterior PPVP border on spectral domain optical coherence tomography scans in both eyes of 20 consecutive individuals and compared the differences with changes in position from sitting to supine. RESULTS: A PPVP was identified in both eyes of 14 individuals (7...

METHODS. We performed SS-OCT in both eyes of 58 volunteers (36 men, 22 women) using 12mm horizontal vertical scans through the macula and optic disc. To minimize age-related changes (liquefaction or posterior vitreous detachment), all subjects were a mean of 26.2 years (range, 22–40 years). The refractive errors ranged from 9.5 diopters (D) to þ3.0 D. To estimate the PPVP size, we measured the height between the fovea and the anterior border of the PPVP and the maximal width in the 12-mm horizon...

Purpose: The posterior precortical vitreous pocket (the pocket) is a premacular liquefied lacuna, the physiologic presence of which was reported in autopsy eyes. We describe the morphologic features of the pocket in normal individuals. Methods: We performed spectral-domain optical coherence tomography in 102 eyes of 51 normal subjects of various ages in a sitting position. Results: The pocket was identified as an optically lucent space anterior to the posterior fundus in 85 of 102 eyes (83.3%) i...

The reported shape and size of the vitreous pocket vary depending on the method of visualization. We used spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) to clarify the structure of the normal vitreous pocket. The macular retina of 20 consecutive non-highly myopic eyes of 10 healthy young adults (aged 22−27 years) was examined using spectral SD-OCT. The premacular vitreous pocket and the pre-papillary Cloquet’s canal were observed in a scan area 9 mm in transverse diameter and 6 mm in long...

PURPOSE: To evaluate posterior vitreous structures using swept-source (SS) optical coherence tomography (OCT) with en face imaging. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed OCT images of healthy individuals who did not have intra-ocular disease. We obtained high-definition horizontal and vertical line scans crossing the fovea and 3D scans using SS-OCT, with the 3D scan centered between the fovea and the optic-nerve head. An enhanced vitreous visualization function was used to highlight vitreous stru...
