Pseudallescheria boydii and its asexual form, Scedosporium apiospermum, are ubiquitous, saprophytic fungi that commonly cause cutaneous infection. However, in certain circumstances, P. boydii can also cause invasive disease, which can involve the central nervous system (CNS).
