Abstract
In transposition of the great arteries the right ventricle is overloaded and its increased oxygen demands may not be met due to hypoxemia. During the surgery right-ventricular myocardium is exposed to an ischemic insult. After an atrial repair the volume overload is relieved, but the pressure overload persists.
