Ambient particulate matter, including diesel exhaust particles (DEP), promotes the development of allergic disorders. DEP increase oxidative stress and influence human bronchial epithelial cell (HBEC)–dendritic cell interactions via cytokines, including thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP).
