Abstract
A series of thick-wall cylinder tests were performed on Bentheim sandstone to investigate the nucleation and propagation of borehole breakouts. Isotropic compression tests showed a significant decrease of the critical pressure required to nucleate breakouts with increasing borehole diameter.
