Abstract
A relationship is considered between a corrosion crack and a corrosion crevice as geometrical objects in which electrochemical processes occur. A model scheme is proposed for a corrosion crack or crevice, and it is shown that the geometrical factor represented by the characteristic width (opening) Δ* of a corrosion crack in the blind part, for which the corrosion rate is maximal, can be decisive in stress corrosion cracking in metals and alloys....
