Activation of a member of the steroid hormone receptor superfamily by peroxisome proliferators

We have cloned a member of the steroid hormone receptor superfamily of ligand-activated transcription factors. The receptor homologue is activated by a diverse class of rodent hepatocarcinogens that causes proliferation of peroxisomes.
