Abstract Seven new cassane diterpenoids ( 1 – 7 ), along with three known compounds ( 8 – 10 ), were isolated from the seed kernels of Caesalpinia bonduc . The structures were elucidated by extensive 1D and 2D NMR (HSQC, HMBC and ROESY) and mass (HRESIMS) spectroscopic data analyses. The structure and absolute configuration of compound 1 were confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiment. All isolates were tested for their cytotoxicity against HepG-2, MCF-7 and MG-63 cells, and 8 – 10 showed weak inhibitory activities.

Chuktabularins E−T (1−16), 16 new 16-norphragmalin limonoids, together with four known compounds, chuktabularins A−D, were isolated from the stem bark of Chukrasia tabularis var. velutina. These compounds possess a biosynthetically extended propionyl or acetyl group at C-15 and a characteristic ketal moiety between the limonoid skeleton and the acyl substituent at C-15. The structures of these compounds were established on the basis of detailed spectroscopic analysis, and that of 1 was confirmed...

Bioassay-guided fractionation of an ethanol extract of a Madagascar collection of the fruits of Cordyla madagascariensis ssp. madagascariensis led to the isolation of the four new cassane diterpenoids 1−4. The 1H and 13C NMR spectra of all compounds were fully assigned using a combination of 2D NMR experiments, including COSY, HSQC, HMBC, and ROESY sequences. All of the isolates were tested against the A2780 human ovarian cancer cell line, and compounds 1 and 2 showed mild antiproliferative acti...

Aim of the study: The present study was carried out to determine the anthelmintic activity of Caesalpinia crista (L.) (Fabaceae) seed kernel and Chenopodium album (L.) (Chenopodiaceae) whole plant in order to justify their traditional use in veterinary medicine. Materials and methods: In vitro anthelmintic activity of crude aqueous methanolic extract (AME) of both the plants was determined using mature Haemonchus contortus and their eggs in adult motility assay and egg hatch test, respectively. ...

Abstract Bioactivity-guided fractionation of the light petroleum extract of Caesalpinia benthamiana (= Mezoneuron benthamianum ) root bark has led to the isolation of two cassane diterpenoids, designated as benthaminin 1 and 2. A third compound, a deoxy form of caesaldekarin C (also referred to as methyl vouacapenate) which has previously been isolated from Caesalpinia major , C. bonducella , Vouacapoua americana and V. macropetala , was also isolated, together with β-sitosterol and stigmastenon...

It was the first found cassane diterpenoids from this plant. Their gross structures were elucidated by means of comprehensive spectroscopic analysis (UV, IR, NMR, HRESIMS) as well as electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculation. The compound 1 possess a rare isomerized...

Abstract Natural products, especially diterpenoids, are enriched with numerous compounds with a broad spectrum of therapeutic indications, suggesting that functional moieties serve as a core pharmacophore. Cassane diterpenoids (CAs), as the main and characteristic constituents of medical plants in the Caesalpinia genus, have been widely studied due to their bioactivities, and >450 compounds have been reported since the 1960s, including 283 compounds that have been reported in the past decade. Th...

Furanoditerpenoids are a special group of diterpenoids composing of one or more furan rings, which are rarely found in nature. This review aims to survey the various naturally occurring furanoditerpenoids and their pharmacological activities. A fairly large number of furanoditerpenoids have been reported from the families Euphorbiaceae, Fabaceae and Lamiaceae, and a few ones from the families Asteraceae, Codoniaceae, Dioscoreaceae, Fossombroniaceae, Jamesoniellaceae, Meliaceae, Menispermaceae, O...
