Abstract
Freckle formation was directly simulated in three dimensions with a microstructure level model for unidirectional solidified Pb–Sn alloys. The microscale solidification model resolves the complex interaction of solute partition, interdendritic thermosolutal convection, dendrite formation and remelting.
