Stimulation of the nitric oxide (NO)--soluble guanylate (sGC)--protein kinase G (PKG) pathway confers protection against acute ischaemia/reperfusion injury, but more chronic effects in reducing post-myocardial infarction (MI) heart failure are less defined.
