Overview No. 1: The nucleation of cavities by plastic deformation
Abstract
A review of the literature concerning cavity nucleation as a result of plastic deformation indicates that at low temperatures there is a critical plastic strain required to nucleate a cavity. A simple model is capable of producing quantitative predictions of the nucleation strain in Fe-Fe3C and in Cu-SiO2 systems.
