OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiological features and clinical outcomes of paraduodenal pancreatitis (PP). METHODS: A final diagnosis of PP was based on surgical specimens in resected patients and on imaging in nonoperated patients. Clinical, radiological, and pathological data were collected and reevaluated. RESULTS: We studied 120 patients, 97.5% of whom were drinkers and 97.5% were smokers. Symptoms at clinical onset were acute pancreatitis in 78 patients (65%) a...

Summary Secondary analysis of large datasets involves the utilization of existing data that has typically been collected for other purposes to advance scientific knowledge. This is an established methodology applied in health services research with the unique advantage of efficiently identifying relationships between predictor and outcome variables but which has been underutilized for hepatology research. Our review of 1431 abstracts published in the 2013 European Association for the Study of Li...

Two different forms of steroid-responsive pancreatitides are recognized, with both being referred to as “autoimmune pancreatitis.” They differ significantly in their clinical, histological, and epidemiological features. It has recently been suggested that the term “AIP” be reserved for the disease associated with elevated serum and tissue IgG4, while the term idiopathic duct centric chronic pancreatitis (IDCP) be used for pancreas-specific form. Clinically the most frequent presentation is painl...

OBJECTIVES:Steroids are used to induce remission in autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP). Low-dosage steroid therapy or immunosuppressant (IMs) has been proposed as maintenance therapy to prevent AIP relapse. Few and conflicting data have been published on the efficacy of azathioprine (AZA) in preventing A
