A direct aspiration-first pass technique (ADAPT) has recently gained popularity for the treatment of large vessel ischemic stroke. Here, we sought to create a machine learning-based model that uses pre-treatment imaging metrics to predict successful outcomes for ADAPT in middle cerebral artery (MCA) stroke cases. In 119 MCA strokes treated by ADAPT, we calculated four imaging parameters—clot length, perviousness, distance from the internal carotid artery (ICA) and angle of interaction (AOI) betw...

To aid in predicting and improving treatment outcome of endovascular coiling of intracranial aneurysms, simulation of patient-specific coil deployment should be both accurate and fast. We developed a fast virtual coiling algorithm called Pre-shape Path Planning (P3). It captures the mechanical propensity of a released coil to restore its pre-shape for bending energy minimization, producing coils without unrealistic kinks and bends. A coil is discretized into finite-length segments and extruded f...

Atomic Force Microscopy with SideWall (AFM SW) is widely used for nano-scale surface measurements at side surfaces. In the current study, by taking into consideration the effects of sidewall beam and its probe, an analytical method is developed to explore the dynamics of AFM-SW. The effect of probe mass, sidewall extension length, and tip sample interactions on the resonance frequencies and amplitude of Micro-Cantilever is widely investigated. The obtained results of the analytical model demonst...
Enodvascular coils treat intracranial aneurysms (IAs) by causing them to occlude by thrombosis. Ideally, coiled IAs eventually occlude in the long-term. However, 20.8% are found incompletely occluded at treatment follow-up. Computer simulations of coiling and its effect on aneurysmal flow could help clinicians predict treatment outcomes a priori, but it requires accurate modeling of coils and their deployment procedure. In addition to being accurate, coiling simulations must be efficient to be u...
The dynamic behavior of AFM is studied taking into account the nonlinear interaction forces between probe and sample. The exerted forces on the free end of micro-beam are simulated with the third degree polynomial. The effect of some parameters on the dynamics of AFM is studied. The results show that the frequency response of AFM is not sensitive to the tip mass in the case of both the sample and cantilever vibration. The effect of sample vibration is studied in the case of in-phase and anti-pha...
In many cases, beam to column connections in structural frames are semi rigid, but they are considered to be ideally rigid or pinned due to their computational complexity and shortage of designing methods. In this paper, connections are considered as linear rotational springs with variable stiffness. Moreover, the main contribution of the present study is a preliminary design method of moment resisting frames, considering semi rigid behavior of connections, by means of presented diagrams for dif...

Abstract Reflection, propagation and energy analysis are crucially important in designing structures, especially plates. A thick plate is considered based on first order shear deformation theory. Wave Propagation Method (WPM) is employed to exactly derive resonant frequencies and wave power reflection from different classical boundary conditions. Firstly, the frequency results are compared with other literature to validate the exact proposed wave solution in the present work. Then, wave analysis...

Finding the inverse of a matrix is an open problem especially when it comes to engineering problems due to their complexity and running time (cost) of matrix inversion algorithms. An optimum strategy to invert a matrix is, first, to reduce the matrix to a simple form, only then beginning a mathematical procedure. For symmetric matrices, the preferred simple form is tridiagonal. This makes tridiagonal matrices of high interest in applied mathematics and engineering problems. This study presents a...
