To test the hypothesis of associations between the ABO blood group system (ABO-bg) and prostate cancer (PCa) features in the surgical specimen of patients treated with robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). Between January 2013 and October 2020, 1114 patients were treated with RARP. Associations of ABO-bg with specimen pathological features were evaluated by statistical methods. Overall, 305 patients were low risk (27.4%), 590 intermediate risk (50%) and 219 high risk (19.6%). Pelvic lymph...

The relationship between prostatic chronic inflammation (PCI) and prostate cancer (PCa) is unclear and controversial. Some authors reported that a history of chronic prostatitis may be correlated with PCa induction, while others associate chronic inflammation with less aggressive disease or consider inflammation as a possible protective factor against PCa. Four different types of prostatitis are known: bacterial acute prostatic inflammation, bacterial chronic prostatic inflammation, abacterial p...

To evaluate potential factors associated with the risk of perioperative blood transfusion (PBT) with implications on length of hospital stay (LOHS) and major post-operative complications in patients who underwent robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) as a primary treatment for prostate cancer (PCa). In a period ranging from January 2013 to August 2019, 980 consecutive patients who underwent RARP were retrospectively evaluated. Clinical factors such as intraoperative blood loss were evaluat...

OBJECTIVES to compare the functional outcomes of on- vs off-clamp robot assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) within a randomised controlled trial. MATERIALS AND METHODS the CLOCK (CLamp vs Off Clamp the Kidney during robotic partial nephrectomy; NCT02287987) is a multicentre randomised controlled trial including patients with normal baseline function, two kidneys and masses with RENAL score ≤ 10. Pre- and post-operative renal scintigraphy was prescribed. Renal defatting and hilum isolation were r...

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the role of the microbiological profile and of disease-related factors in the management of patients affected with Fournier's gangrene (FG). PATIENTS AND METHODS Data regarding patients admitted for FG at nine Italian Hospitals (March 2007-June 2018) were collected. Patients were stratified according to the number of microorganisms documented: Group A - one microorganism; Group B - two microorganisms; Group C - more than three microorganisms. Baseline blood tests, dedicate...

Background. Three or four cycles of cisplatin-based chemotherapy is the standard neoadjuvant treatment prior to cystectomy in patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Although NCCN guidelines recommend 4 cycles of cisplatin-gemcitabine, three cycles are also commonly administered in clinical practice. In this multicenter retrospective study, we assessed a large and homogenous cohort of patients with urothelial bladder cancer (UBC) treated with three or four cycles of neoadjuvant cisplatin-g...

Objective The aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that endogenous total testosterone (TT) may relate to incidental prostate cancer (iPCA) in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with prostate enlargement undergoing transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Methods The hypothesis was tested in contemporary cohort of patients who underwent TURP because of LUTS due to prostate enlargement after excluding the suspect of PCA. In period running from January 2017 t...
