Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis polysaccharides (GLP) were degraded using pectinase, glucoamylase, cellulase, xylanase, and β-dextranase into low-molecular-weight polysaccharides, namely, GPP, GGP, GCP, GXP, and GDP, respectively, and their antioxidant capacities were investigated. The degraded GLPs showed higher antioxidant activities than natural GLP, and GDP exhibited the highest antioxidant activity. After the optimization of degradation conditions through single-factor and orthogonal optimizat...

Abstract Heat stress is a detrimental environmental factor limiting the growth and productivity of Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis, one of the most important economic marine red algae, and its adverse effects are expected to increase in the near future due to global warming. Thus, understanding the heat stress response of G. lemaneiformis and enhancing its ability to adapt to high temperatures have become of critical importance to aquaculture development. Previous study found that chitooligosacchar...

Abstract Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis, one of the principal economical seaweeds in China, has been increasingly threatened by diseases and yield reduction due to heat stress caused by global warming. Reportedly, chitooligosaccharides (COS) can be used as an elicitor to induce the defense response of terrestrial plants. This study aimed to investigate the possibility of using COS as an elicitor to induce the stress resistance of G. lemaneiformis under heat stress. The present results showed that ...

In this experiment, Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis proteins were hydrolyzed by different proteases (trypsin, pepsin, papain, α-chymotrypsin, alcalase) to prepare antioxidant peptides. Comparing with other hydrolysates, α-chymotrypsin hydrolysates displayed the highest antioxidant activity. The hydrolysis conditions of α-chymotrypsin were further optimized using response surface methodology (RSM), and the optimal conditions were as follows: substrate concentration 10 mg/mL, reaction time 2.0 h, enz...

Angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory peptides derived from seaweed represent a potential source of new antihypertensive. The aim of this study was to isolate and purify ACE inhibitory peptides (ACEIPs) from the protein hydrolysate of the marine macroalga Ulva intestinalis. U. intestinalis protein was hydrolyzed by five different proteases (trypsin, pepsin, papain, α-chymotrypsin, alcalase) to prepare peptides; compared with other hydrolysates, the trypsin hydrolysates exhibited the h...
